Theatre

The purpose of this courses is to expose students to all aspects of Theatre including acting, directing, and Technical aspects. During this course students will build their theatre knowledge. Students in this course study the history of theatre and its place in today’s society. They participate in staging, rehearsing, and performing an original or existing work. These activities will incorporate elements of theatre history, culture, analysis, response, creative process, and integrated studies. Additionally, students will explore career opportunities in the theatre, attend and critique theatrical productions, and recognize the responsibilities and the importance of individual theatre patrons in their community.

These courses are designed to give you both basic and advanced knowledge in backstage roles, stagecraft, design, lighting, sound, costuming, make-up, and stage management. These courses are almost entirely “hands-on”. There will be a rotation of working on projects and working on the shows. Students will be expected to work each day.

The purpose of this course is to expose students to multiple Acting theories and Theorists. During this class students will gain an understanding of Acting history. They will also learn about the major pools of thought when it comes to acting. These include: Stanislavski, Meisner, Uta Hagen, Adler, Strasberg, and Spolin. We will focus on each of these theorists individually. Students will participate in exercises designed for specific aspects of acting.

The purpose of these courses is to expose students to all aspects of Theatre production including acting, directing, and producing. During this course students will build upon their previous theatre knowledge and delve further into contextual and critical analysis of a role/scene in a play. Students in these courses study the history of theatre and its place in today’s society. They participate in staging, rehearsing, and performing an original or existing work. These activities will incorporate elements of theatre history, culture, analysis, response, creative process, and integrated studies. Additionally, students will explore career opportunities in the theatre, attend and critique theatrical productions, and recognize the responsibilities and the importance of individual theatre patrons in their community.

The purpose of this courses is to expose students to all aspects of musical theatre including acting, singing, and dancing. During this courses students will build upon their previous theatre knowledge and delve further into contextual and critical analysis of a role/song in a musical. Students in this courses study the history of musical theatre and its place in today’s society. They participate in staging, choreographing, rehearsing, and performing an original or existing musical work. These activities will incorporate elements of theatre history, culture, analysis, response, creative process, and integrated studies. Additionally, students will explore career opportunities in the theatre, attend and critique theatrical productions, and recognize the responsibilities and the importance of individual theatre patrons in their community.

The purpose of Theatre Appreciation is to develop understanding, appreciation and critical perceptions of the theatrical event. The course will approach theatre as an art form, an entertainment medium and as a vehicle for self- expression. Emphasis will be placed on the history of theatre, acting, directing, playwriting, theatre technology, costume design, scenic design, and lighting design. Active participation in the playwriting, acting, directing and designing processes will be provided. The course will also require attendance at theatrical events to offer firsthand experience in theatre arts.
